Dog Walker/Pet Sitter Job Description Overview
- Meet with potential new clients to explain our services and ensure a good fit.
- Be comfortable filling in for other Pet Care Team members when necessary. This includes referring to client and pet information in our client database and performing all required care for pets and other tasks as needed.
- Visits range from 10 minutes to full overnights and are done within the same time frame each scheduled day to ensure continuity for the pets in our care.
- Daily tasks may include, but are not limited to, walking dogs, feeding animals, cleaning up any messes, scooping litter boxes, picking up pet waste, watering plants, bringing in mail/newspapers, taking out/bringing in garbage cans, alternating lighting and blinds, and positively interacting with pets.
- All dogs must be kept on leash during walks and in unsecured yards. Dakota's Dogs does not provide pack walks. Walkers will typically only walk multiple dogs if they are from the same family. On occasion, you may be required to walk a dog with a neighboring client dog. This will only happen with each client's approval and the dogs are used to spending time with each other.
- Sometimes our clients are home when we visit. You must be comfortable running into and interacting with our human clients.
- You will be required to have, and be comfortable using, a personally owned smartphone to complete visit reports and communicate with management and other team members during your shifts. Visit reports will be sent to each client detailing your visit with their pet(s) upon completion of each visit. This includes photos and notes informing the client of what occurred during you visit. An Android or iOS smartphone is required.
- You must be comfortable maintaining keys to client homes and take responsibility not to lose keys or get locked out.
- You must respect client confidentiality. Friends, relatives and/or children are not permitted to be present on visits. Sitters are not permitted to reveal to anyone that a particular client is away. Photos of pets may never be posted on social media when a client is away from home. Client photos may never be shared on personal social media pages. The utmost care should be used when taking photos of pets to limit any personal identifying information.
- Employees must be pet first aid/cpr certified within 30 days of hire and be willing to attend continuing education courses as requested by Dakota's Dogs management.
- You will care for pets in all types of weather. You must be comfortable (and prepared) to work and drive in rain, snow and heat.
- You may be required to lift up to 50 lbs (occasionally) and 25 lbs (regularly).
- You must be comfortable and able to walk for long periods throughout your shifts.
- You must be comfortable and able to climb stairs, sit, stand, crouch, kneel or run.
- You will be required to drive your personal vehicle for work purposes. You must carry appropriate insurance on your vehicle.
